Four people were shot and killed on a Chicago commuter train on the morning of Labor Day, Sept. 2. A suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was arrested.

The shooting occurred at the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA)’s Blueline Station at 711 Desplaines Ave. in Forest Park, Ill., a suburb of Chicago, according to a police press release shared by the Village of Forest Park’s official Facebook page.

Police were called just before 5:30 a.m., and when they arrived they found four victims, three of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and later pronounced dead, according to the release.

When police arrived, the gunman had escaped. A suspect who matched the description was later arrested on another CTA train after police reviewed CTA Security surveillance footage. A firearm was recovered and the suspect was arrested.

“This appears to be an isolated incident with no immediate threat to the community,” the press release continues.

Neither the victims nor the suspect have been identified by authorities.

“Although this was an isolated incident, this heinous and egregious act of violence should never have occurred, none the less on a public transit train,” the CTA said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. “As soon as this matter was reported, CTA immediately deployed resources to assist the Forest Park Police in their investigation into the matter, including review of all possible security camera footage, which proved to be vital in aiding local enforcement.

“We commend both the Forest Park Police Department for their thorough and collaborative efforts to provide information to partner agencies; as well as the Chicago Police Department whose quick actions led to the apprehension of a suspect in this matter,” the statement continued. “CTA will continue to work with local law enforcement as part of this ongoing investigation.”

PEOPLE reached out to the Forest Park Police Department for comment.
