Warning: Spoilers for Green Lantern #15Move over, Batmobile; Batman has a high-tech new ride that puts his usual mode of transportation to shame. Batman’s latest technological feat has been uncovered in the unlikeliest of places, and with speed that rivals the Flash, it could be a valuable asset for the Dark Knight. However, its life-threatening downside prevents it from being as useful as it could be.
In the preview for Green Lantern #15 by Jeremy Adams and Fernando Pasarin, Hal Jordan and Wally West set out on a mission to retrieve intel from the Hall of Order. Because they’ve had their powers drained by Amanda Waller’s Amazo Task Force, they need their own vehicles in order to reach their destination. Luckily, Hal knows where to find Batman’s top-secret hangar that houses a prototype Bruce had worked on. This prototype is revealed to be called the Batwolf, and it’s a sight to behold.
Batman’s awesome new plane has the potential to be one of the fastest vehicles in the DC Universe – except it has one key weakness holding it back.
Batman’s “Batwolf” Prototype Is at Risk of Exploding
Its Speed Comes with a Dangerous Cost
The Batwolf’s design certainly looks cool, but it has a deadly downside that wards most pilots away. According to Hal, upon acceleration, it can explode. That’s right: Batman’s prototype plane is a death trap waiting to happen. Piloting it can be fatal, hence why it’s been abandoned in a remote hangar. The Batwolf is so dangerous that Oracle intervenes to stop Hal from flying it, though Hal manages to circumvent this and fly it regardless. Green Lantern risks everything to hitch a ride on Batman’s plane, and considering what it’s capable of, it’s easy to understand why he is willing to.
The Batwolf may be flawed, but if Batman
can repair it to fly without exploding, it could be his greatest invention yet.
Although the Batwolf is a liability for Batman, it can’t be denied that the reward might be worth the risk. Despite its tendency to explode, the Batwolf boasts astounding speed that could put it on par with speedsters. As shown in the preview, it moves fast enough to keep up with the Flash’s new bike, which he’s been using during the Absolute Power event to accommodate his lack of super-speed. The Batwolf is a game-changing upgrade that lets Batman travel at a velocity he’d never thought possible. The best part is that Batman might have even more vehicles like it stashed away.
The Batwolf May Not Be Batman’s Only Secret Vehicle
Could Batman Be Hiding More Prototypes?
The island Hal locates is said to be just one of Bruce Wayne’s many islands, which means there’s a chance those other islands contain facilities that hold prototypes like the Batwolf. After all, while he’s known for his combat prowess, Batman’s intellect often gets overlooked as his most impressive “superpower.” He’s built a vast arsenal of gadgets and vehicles, with the Batwolf being the latest in a long line of inventions, so it’s reasonable to assume he has more hidden away. The Batwolf may be flawed, but if Batman can repair it to fly without exploding, it could be his greatest invention yet.
