Carley Fortune to Publish New Novel ‘One Golden Summer’

Carley Fortune is returning to Barry’s Bay!

On Aug. 14, the bestselling author shared that a new novel, One Golden Summer, is on its way. The forthcoming book will hit shelves next year, and will center Charlie Florek, a beloved character from Fortune’s 2022 debut Every Summer After.

The new novel also follows Alice, who has always been told that the lakeside town of Barry’s Bay, Canada, is a special place. When she was 17, she spent the summer at her Nan’s cottage by the lake, where she took an iconic photograph of three teenagers on a yellow speed boat that changed the trajectory of her life.

When her grandmother breaks her hip, Alice, now a photographer, returns to Barry’s Bay, where she’s reunited with the “green-eyed flirt” Charlie, one of the teenagers from her picture who is now all grown up. As Charlie and Alice spend time together, Alice finds herself longing for her teenage years and developing new feelings for Charlie, who sees her in a way that no one else ever has.

“We’re heading back to Barry’s Bay!” Fortune wrote in her Instagram announcement, which was accompanied by a video showing fan messages asking for a novel about Charlie.

Fortune is also the author of 2023’s Meet Me at the Lake and 2024’s This Summer Will Be Different. On July 31, the author shared that Every Summer After will be adapted into a television series for Amazon Prime Video. The novel follows Persephone, nicknamed Percy, and Charlie’s brother Sam, whose longtime friendship is strained when Percy leaves Barry’s Bay for the city. When Percy returns to her hometown for Sam’s mother’s funeral, the two must come to terms with their past mistakes when they reunite.

“Every Summer After holds a very special place in my heart and in the hearts of readers all over the world who deeply connect with Sam and Percy’s love story,” Fortune previously told PEOPLE. “I’m excited to partner with Amazon to take their journey even further — beyond the pages of the book, onto the screen, and into the hearts of audiences across the globe.”

One Golden Summer will be published on May 6, 2025 and is now available for preorder, wherever books are sold.
