Emmy Rossum and Zoë Winters will star in the Off-Broadway play Walden this fall.

The play, written by Amy Berryman and directed by Whitney White, will play the Tony Kiser Theater starting Oct. 16, before an opening night of Nov. 7.

Walden is set in the “near future,” and follows Stella (played by Rossum), with her fiancé Bryan in tow, as she reunites with her estranged twin sister, Cassie (Winters), in a remote cabin. While both were raised by their father to be NASA scientists, only Cassie has followed that path. The two clash over old conflicts, as well as the decision whether to remain on earth or pursue life in space.

The play marks Rossum’s Off-Broadway debut. Best known for her role as Fiona Gallagher on Shameless, Rossum has also starred as Christine in the film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera, in addition to films such as The Day After Tomorrow, and TV credits including the title character in Peacock’s Angelyne and Apple’s The Crowded Room, opposite Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried.

Winter recently wrapped production on Celine Song’s Materialists for A24, starring opposite Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. She is best known for her role as Kerry on HBO’s Succession, and recently appeared in Marc Turtletaub’s film, Jules. Winter is a regular on the New York stage, with credits including Heroes of the Fourth Turning at Playwrights Horizons, White Noise at the Public Theatre and Small Mouth Sounds at the Signature.

The role of Brian has yet to be cast.

White directed Jaja’s African Hair Braiding on Broadway last season and is also set to direct The Last Five Years starring Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren on Broadway in the spring.

Walden had its world premiere, presented by Sonia Friedman Productions, in May 2021 on London’s West End at the Harold Pinter Theatre. It then played TheatreWorks in Hartford, Conn. in August 2021.

The production is being presented by special arrangement with Seaview and Soto Productions.Second Stage Theater, which owns the Tony Kiser Theater, is set to exit its lease at the end of 2024.
