- The upcoming storylines in The Witcher season 4 will explore different sides of Geralt, providing Hemsworth with a chance to make the character his own.
The Witcher season 4 will be the show’s first season without Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, and his best scene only makes his recast more disappointing. The Witcher is one of the most popular worlds in the fantasy genre, which successfully expanded to video games and found a home on Netflix in 2019. Despite the success of the first season, The Witcher has become one of the most controversial and divisive Netflix shows in recent years due to the changes it made to the source material and, most recently, to its Geralt recast.
Henry Cavill played the title witcher, Geralt of Rivia, in the show’s first three seasons, and his performance was praised by critics and fans of the books and video games. Unfortunately, Cavill announced he would step down from The Witcher after season 3, and Liam Hemsworth was revealed as his replacement. The Witcher season 4 will be Hemsworth’s debut, and the first look at him as Geralt has already divided the audience, but when looking back at Cavill’s best fight scene in The Witcher, his recast is even more disappointing.

Cavill’s Best Geralt Scene Is More Than A Great Fight
Netflix’s The Witcher wasted no time in showing how ruthless Geralt of Rivia can be, but also how he does his best to stay as neutral as possible. The Witcher season 1 began with Geralt arriving in Blaviken after killing a kikimora. There he met Renfri, a cursed princess and now a bandit hunted by wizard Stregobor (Lars Mikkelsen), who believed Renfri to be evil as she was born during an eclipse. Stregobor wanted to get Geralt to kill her, but he refused. Renfri offered the witcher a counter-proposal, but he also refused with an ultimatum that she either leave or die.
Throughout his time in
The Witcher
, Cavill had many action scenes and others that were more dramatic and personal, but the Blaviken fight was a combination of these.
Renfri tricked Geralt and went after Stregobor, and in Geralt’s efforts to stop her, he engaged in a big fight against Renfri’s people in Blaviken. Geralt was left with no choice other than to kill Renfri’s men, but when Renfri appeared with Marilka as a hostage, Geralt tried to regain his neutrality and convince Renfri to leave, but she started a fight. Geralt won the fight by killing Renfri, who told him that the girl in the woods would always be with him (Ciri).
Throughout his time in The Witcher, Cavill had many action scenes and others that were more dramatic and personal, but the Blaviken fight was a combination of these. Cavill’s acting chops shone through in this scene so early on in The Witcher, capturing the inner conflict Geralt goes through before fighting Renfri’s men and Renfri herself, along with the guilt over all of it after Renfri’s death and Stregobor’s arrival. And, of course, his experience with action scenes made the fights a lot more exciting.

Cavill Brought Something Unique To His Portrayal Of Geralt
Knowing how great Cavill was at bringing Geralt’s deepest inner conflicts to life, it’s a lot more disappointing that he won’t be around to explore the upcoming Geralt storylines.
Netflix’s The Witcher will end with its fifth season, meaning that the final two seasons will see some of the most important storylines in Geralt’s history. Knowing how great Cavill was at bringing Geralt’s deepest inner conflicts to life, it’s a lot more disappointing that he won’t be around to explore the upcoming Geralt storylines. With Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer now separated (again), Geralt is about to go into more exciting battles (such as one with Vilgefortz), form a new team, and meet the White Flame, along with any extra stories and changes the show adds and makes.

Giving Up On The Witcher After Henry Cavill’s Exit? Here’s What Happens To Geralt
The Witcher season 3 is Henry Cavill’s final season as Geralt of Rivia, but there are still many things the series has to cover in Geralt’s story.
Giving Renfri’s brooch away means Geralt has given away his neutrality.
At the end of The Witcher season 3, Geralt gave Renfri’s brooch away to a guard to let him and Jaskier pass after they left Brokilon. To Geralt, Renfri’s brooch was a reminder of seeking humanity in every situation and not getting involved in conflicts between humans, but by giving it away, he has given away that neutrality. This will make way for more conflicts in Geralt’s near future similar to the Blaviken one, but Cavill won’t be the one playing Geralt when these happen.
Geralt’s Witcher Season 4 Story Leaves Room To Explore New Sides Of The Character
There’s Still More To See Of Geralt In Netflix’s The Witcher
Liam Hemsworth has many challenges to overcome in his debut as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, but he also has a couple of advantages. Ciri has been confirmed not to reunite with Geralt in season 4, which will give Hemsworth enough space and time to develop his version of the character without having to jump straight into one of his most important dynamics.
Geralt being about to go into different storylines and explore other sides of himself in season 4 is also giving Hemsworth the chance to do what Cavill didn’t get to, which can avoid comparisons to his predecessor. Of course, it’s disappointing that Henry Cavill won’t be around for those darker Geralt storylines, but that could be greatly beneficial for Liam Hemsworth’s first season as Geralt.
