- Clarins Double Serum, from £65, clarins.co.uk
What’s the story?
Since its launch in 1985, Double Serum has been a global bestseller, winning hundreds of beauty awards. This month, the newest, most eco-friendly formula was launched.
Why should I buy?
Its plant extracts are harvested using traditional, often organic methods to ensure the biodiversity of local habitats is respected. Fair trade supply chains are used where necessary, and Clarins finances projects to support local people in many of these regions. The bottle now contains 94 per cent recyclable materials, and the lid has been replaced by a locking system, which means less plastic production.
Why shouldn’t I buy?
Plant ingredients are sourced worldwide, from Slovakia to Sierra Leone, so they need to be transported to the factory in France. However, in 2020, Clarins pledged to limit its air freight to less than two per cent within five years – a target it hit in 2022.
The extra mile
The company’s Trust platform enables you to trace your product – enter the batch code and find out when and where it was made, which ingredients were used, where they were sourced and how they were grown and harvested. Clarins also takes part in the Dragonfly programme, which protects the biodiversity of wetlands in France.
