Katy Perry Met Orlando Bloom After Writing up Exactly What She Wanted

Speaking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to discuss her latest album, “143,” the 39-year-old pop singer said she met her fiancé after being stuck in a “bad continuing loop.”

“I was like, I’m going to go swim in a different pond, I want to try something else, I’m going to say yes to something I wouldn’t normally say yes to,” the “Woman’s World” singer said.

But before seeing “what’s out there in the world” and attending the 2016 Golden Globes, she decided to set her intentions.

“I’m going to set so many intentions on this full moon, I’m going to write out exactly what I want, I’m going to wear a rose quartz dress to track the love that I want,” she said.

She wrote two specific requirements down: someone who could meet her in the “adventure department” — “cause I love adventure,” she said — and who is as “spiritually curious” as her, she recalled.

Perry ended up meeting Orlando Bloom at the 2016 Golden Globes afterparty. The pair got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019 and announced the birth of their baby, Daisy Dove Bloom, in August 2020.

As it turned out, Bloom checked both boxes. “I mean, we just jumped out of a helicopter together,” she told Lowe.

And about his spiritual curiosity, Perry said she simply found out after spending time with him. “You know, there’s no hiding. It’s a 7-day-a-week relationship, not just a Friday-Saturday-Sunday relationship — those are easy,” she said.

Having a child together has also revealed new challenges. “Life is not peachy king jelly bean,” Perry said, adding, “I get to see who he is in those challenging moments, and it’s why I chose him.”

Setting intentions for success

Perry is not the only celebrity who has set intentions for success.

In 2019, Oprah Winfrey said she sets an intention before every show. “Whatever you end up with, is what you started with as an intention,” she said while speaking at a Qualtrics user conference in Salt Lake City. “Getting that principal changed the trajectory of my entire life.”

The award-winning talk show host has continued to set an intention for everything she does, even if it’s just decorating a room. “It comes back to you 10-fold, 100-fold, in ways you cannot even imagine,” she said.

In the corporate world, being intentional can also help your career.

“It’s important to set goals because if you don’t, it’s like trying to get somewhere without putting directions into a GPS,” career coach Chelsea Stokes previously told Business Insider.

But it’s no use setting goals just because you think you should or because you’re comparing yourself to someone else, she said. Stokes emphasizes the importance of setting goals with intention and thinking about how they will change your life, and the impact they could have on people around you.

“This can not only help you set more specific goals for yourself, but it’ll also help to keep you motivated throughout the year,” she said.

A representative for Perry did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours.
