Despite millions of Netflix users watching season 1 of The Watcher, star Naomi Watts remains on the watch for an update on The Watcher season 2.
Visiting Entertainment Weekly at the Toronto International Film Festival for her new movie The Friend, Watts had a mini Watcher reunion with costar Bobby Cannavale inside the EW and PEOPLE TIFF studio (where he swung by to promote his own film, Unstoppable), before sharing that there’s been no movement on the second season of the popular thriller series — at least as far as she knows.
“I don’t have one, if there is one. I wish I could,” the 55-year-old tells EW. “It was so fun, right? I don’t have an update, I’m afraid.”
Watts’ comment comes nearly two years after Netflix announced it had renewed the limited series, created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, for a surprise second season after its October 2022 debut.
Based on a true story, season 1 followed the Brannock family (led by Watts and Cannavale) who move into an idyllic mansion only to be barraged by a series of threatening, anonymous letters sent to their home from a a mystery neighbor.
Watts’ costar Jennifer Coolidge told EW in December 2022 that she hadn’t been asked to reprise her role as foul-mouthed real estate agent Karen, and Watts told EW earlier this year she wasn’t sure if the Brannock family would be part of season 2.

“To be honest, we left the house, so I don’t know if we’ll be coming back,” Watts said at the time. “I don’t know what the plan is there, so I can’t give you a straight answer, I’m afraid.”
Representatives for Murphy and Netflix did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
