Navy fires CO of Navy Reserve Center Shreveport

The Navy relieved the commanding officer of Navy Reserve Center Shreveport, Louisiana, on Friday, making him the second commanding officer the service has relieved this month.

Lt. Cmdr. Adam Sandifer was relieved of his duties by Rear Adm. Michael Steffen, commander of Navy Reserve Forces Command, due to “a loss of confidence in his ability to command,” the service said in a brief release.

“The Navy maintains the highest standards for commanding officers and holds them accountable when those standards are not met,” the service said.

While Sandifer is noted as holding the rank of lieutenant commander in the Navy release, an Aug. 19 post on the NRC Shreveport Facebook page describes a lieutenant commander Sandifer as promoting to commander.

The Navy release did not provide additional details on Sandifer’s dismissal. The service uses the “loss of confidence” statement as a blanket term when relieving commanding officers.

Sandifer’s dismissal comes less than three weeks after the Navy relieved another commanding officer of a reserve center. On Dec. 3, the Navy relieved Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Bourque as the commanding officer of Navy Reserve Center Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Sandifer, who assumed command of NRC Shreveport in March 2024, has been temporarily reassigned to Navy Personnel Command, the Navy said.

Lt. Cmdr. John Perez has temporarily assumed leadership of NRC Shreveport.
