After weeks of rumors, Warner Bros. and DC confirmed today that The Batman – Part II has been delayed again. The planned Batman sequel is now set to land in theaters in 2027, five years after the release of the first movie and nearly eight years after Robert Pattinson was cast as the iconic DC hero.
On December 27, Deadline reported that after weeks of rumors that a delay for The Batman – Part II was coming, WB has officially pushed the flick’s release date back until October 1, 2027. This is the second delay for director Matt Reeves’ Batman sequel. In March, the superhero sequel was delayed from October 2025 to October 2026. And now, it’s been delayed again.
As for the multiple delays, IO9 reports it’s heard that director and co-writer Reeves is just being really careful and protective over the script and the sequel’s story. The outlet claims the director doesn’t want to move forward with The Batman – Part II until he is really happy with the script.
While today’s news of a delay is disappointing for fans who have already been waiting a few years, it wasn’t very surprising. We hadn’t heard much about the new movie beyond the delay from 2025 to 2026 earlier this year. And when the recently announced Clayface movie—featuring one of Batman’s famous villians—was given a release date just a few weeks before The Batman 2‘s planned October 2026 opening, it seemed like something would have to change. And now it has, with Pattinson and Reeves’ sequel sliding into 2027.
In the meantime, earlier this year WB released the highly acclaimed Penguin spin-off series on Max. That series gives us a glimpse of The Batman’s gritty and grounded corner of the DC universe and, for now, it’s all fans will get until 2027.
