If you want to land a big score on today’s Connections puzzle, we have some great hints and tips for you to help. Today’s puzzle has overlapping words and harder categories to guess outright, so double-check before hitting submit. However, even if you can’t get it perfect, with our help you should at least be able to keep your streak alive.
In the daily Tiles game, you can create matches to make even bigger streaks. It’s a game all about matching and figuring out which tiles go better together than others. It also involves some logical deduction, as you have to decide what order is best to make sure you get the best score possible. It may not be Connections, but it is quite fun.
Today’s Connections Category Hints
SEPTEMBER 05 #451
If you want to have a blast with today’s puzzle, you will want to make sure you have the best guess as to the category names. We will reveal those names later on, but for now, here are four hints as to what they might be:
- One category is about the packages offered to clients of a certain profession
- One category is about words that have a negative connotation
- One category is about the opposite of giving something away
- One category is about words used in a specific sport
If you have looked at the words and the hints and still need something more specific, here are the category names:

CUT |
TRIM |
This one was a bit tricky for me as I thought CUT and TRIM likely went together but was looking for words closer to those two meanings. I did not think about them as a particular offering at a hair salon.
This might be because it’s been years since I stepped foot in one, preferring to just let my aunt trim my hair when it gets too uneven, but the BLOWOUT word should have been a bigger clue to me.

PAN |
SLAM |
I was fairly certain that BASH, BLAST, and SLAM went together, but I was looking for more of an explosive word to be the fourth one. This made it a little harder to guess that PAN belonged here. It has been a while since I have heard anyone use it in that context.
If nothing else, Connections is a great way to refresh your vocabulary on obscure uses of words. In particular, I thought SACK might belong here before I thought of PAN.

SNAG |
This one felt like the easiest category to me today, as BAG, SCORE, and SNAG all stood out to me. If I had clocked the sports theme of the last category before I did this one, SCORE likely would have been a big red herring, but averse as I am to sports, I got a little lucky here to guess that I was looking for words that meant obtaining something. LAND was the hardest one to add to the category for me, but it happened faster than some of my guesses with the other categories.

My sportsball knowledge is decent all considered, but it is not my first thought when I see any of those words since I don’t think about it as often as possible. Perhaps I should have known better, as most of my family is currently very happy and celebrating the return of football to their weekly routines.
Luckily, my family’s influence has sunk in somewhere, because I did see the connection to football-themed words after a little while.
