17 Transformers One Will Take Place 3 Billion Years Before Previous Transformers Movies
The film is technically still not a direct prequel to other Transformers films
The Transformers One panel at SDCC 2024 revealed that the animated film will take place 3 billion years before any of the previous Transformers movies. It’s not necessarily a prequel because it exists in a different universe than the Michael Bay-inspired live-action franchise, but it does take place way before those movies. Given the costs of pulling off a world set in an unfathomable time period, the panel also revealed that Transformers One would have been too expensive as a live-action film, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura estimating that it would have cost something like $500 million to make. Transformers One is not a part of the canon in the established Transformers franchise.
