Ronda Rousey and her husband, Travis Browne, are looking forward to raising two kids soon: La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō and another baby on the way.
While at the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, Rousey shared additional exciting news beyond the launch of her new graphic novel, Expecting the Unexpected: she’s pregnant with baby No. 2.
During a panel discussion with Dave Bautista, the professional wrestler, who has also authored two memoirs, spoke about her latest project and shared that, like her character in the graphic novel, she is also expecting. Afterward, Rousey posed for press photos at the convention, cradling her baby bump.
The announcement comes nearly three years after she and her husband, Browne, welcomed their first child together, La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō, in 2021. (Browne also has two sons, Kaleo and Keawe, from a previous marriage.) Since becoming a parent, Rousey has been open about her motherhood experiences, often sharing heartfelt moments and reflections on social media.
In an interview with PEOPLE in June 2023, Rousey spoke about La’akea’s resilient nature and the ways in which her young daughter is already taking after her.
“Oh, she’s definitely going to be tough. She doesn’t respond to pain so much,” she said, recalling a recent incident where her daughter scraped her knee without shedding a tear. “The world isn’t ready for this little girl.”
Here’s everything to know about Ronda Rousey’s kids.
La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne, 2
Rousey and Browne welcomed their first child together, La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne, in September 2021.
Her birth was a significant moment for the pair, who celebrated the arrival of their daughter, affectionately called “Pō,” with heartfelt posts on social media. In Rousey’s photos, she gave a glimpse of the newborn, and Browne posted the same pictures on his Instagram with the caption, “Welcome to this world La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne. You are so incredibly loved!”
Nowadays, Rousey frequently posts updates about La’akea online, sharing snippets of their life — from gym visits to stopping by the local chicken hatch. At the center of Rousey’s La’akea content is a sentiment of closeness.
In April 2024, the pro wrestler posted a video on Instagram of La’akea running into her arms from across the way with the caption, “No place I’d rather be.”
While navigating motherhood, Rousey has kept up with her career, including filming the reality competition show Stars on Mars. Afterward, Rousey said it proved taxing, as it required her to be away from her child for an extended period.
“That was the most challenging thing, just being away from my baby,” she told PEOPLE in June 2023. “I had a really hard time being away from her,” adding that “the mom guilt was compounding by the day.”
However, when the two finally reunited after Rousey wrapped up her time on the Fox series, she recalled the mother-daughter duo’s emotional bonding moment.
“When she saw me, she wanted to jump into my arms and then she wanted me to put her down and just run around the house with me and then pick her up,” the 9-1-1 star recounted. When La’akea “finally calmed down” from the excitement, the two celebrated by watching Frozen.
“Then that night — she sleeps in the bed with us — and with her little head in my nook, and I fell sleep holding her that night,” Rousey added. “It was the most amazing feeling after being away for so long.”
She has often reflected on how motherhood has transformed her life, making her more considerate and improving her mental health. The athlete shared with PEOPLE that focusing on her daughter has helped her stop being so hard on herself, emphasizing the positive impact La’akea has had on her well-being.
“I’m just so much happier that I’m no longer ruminating over myself all day,” Rousey explained. “I think the best part about it is that it’s mentally made me more healthy and made me stop beating myself up so much because I’m so concerned with taking care of her.”
La’akea is already showing signs of her mother’s toughness: According to Rousey, she handles pain with remarkable resilience. “She just fell and scraped her knee today, and she didn’t even cry. She just kind of grunts it out!” she said.
Ronda Rousey and Travis Browne’s Baby on the Way
Rousey and Browne are expanding their family with a second baby.
In July 2024, Rousey attended San Diego Comic-Con to promote the launch of her new graphic novel, Expecting the Unexpected.
The professional wrestler’s book, which was launched through a Kickstarter campaign, is about “two rival assassins who end up unexpectedly pregnant and discover that giving life is harder than taking it,” Rousey wrote in an Instagram post.
While speaking on a panel with Baustia, she revealed that life imitated art and announced that she and Browne were having another child.
While Rousey didn’t share more details, like the sex or due date, she happily posed with her baby bump at the event.
