With 2024 nearly over, fans have been wondering what’s coming down the line in 2025. Their questions were answered with DC Comics’ batch of solicitations for January, which revealed that for the first time in years, Aquaman is returning to headline his own series.
Absolute Power has altered Aquaman’s powers, giving him new ‘water-warping’ abilities. And just in time too, because giant water-based kaiju are emerging all over the globe. But Arthur isn’t alone in this new chapter of his life as he’s joined by a mysterious guide named Dagon, who helps Aquaman discover the secrets of ‘the Blue’.

Absolute Power hit the heroes of the DC Universe hard as Amanda Waller used every asset at her disposal to take down Earth’s superhumans once and for all. Thanks to Task Force VII, a team of modified Amazos, Waller successfully stole the powers of nearly every hero and imprisoned hundreds of de-powered superhumans. It was a dark period, but the heroes managed to destroy Task Force VII and wound up regaining their powers. Unfortunately, it wasn’t an exact science and some heroes ended up not getting their abilities back, while some Justice League members got new powers altogether.

A post-Absolute Power Aquaman book has a lot of potential, especially as Arthur is one of the most high-profile heroes affected by the power swap. Not to mention, this book puts Aquaman in his element by having him face down outrageous monsters and going on epic adventures. And for fans worried about his supporting cast, character designs from DC Connect #54 that Mera and Aquaman Jackson Hyde will be along for the ride. While it remains to be seen what Adams and Timms have planned, Aquaman is being set up for a grand adventure his fans are going to love.

DC’s All In Era is The Perfect Time to Bring Aquaman Back
The threat of Absolute Power was just the beginning. It’d be bad enough for Aquaman to deal with new powers that could pose a danger to himself or those he loves. Add in giant kaiju attacking all across the world and that makes for an adventure fit only for Arthur Curry. DC All In promised new and exciting directions for fan-favorite heroes, and it’s clear that DC Comics has big plans for everyone’s favorite underwater hero. Who knows what will come from these new threats and powers Aquaman has discovered, but DC Comics fans definitely shouldn’t miss it.
