Superman may still be a year away, but James Gunn’s new DC cinematic universe is ready to kick off later this year with the animated series Creature Commandos. With this year’s San Diego Comic-Con in full swing, DC finally unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming show.
Viola Davis reprises her role as Amanda Waller, who has not given up on her passion project of using criminals as a task force for dangerous missions. When Rick Flag, Sr. (Frank Grillo) points out that Congress outlawed any further activities by Task Force X (a.k.a. the Suicide Squad), Waller reveals her loophole.
“Congress said we can’t use human prisoners,” Waller says, before electrifying the Bride of Frankenstein and an anthropomorphic weasel. “These assholes aren’t human.”
So instead of the human convicts of the Suicide Squad movies, Waller will now employ a team of monsters and misfits to do her dirty work. Welcome to Creature Commandos.

As previously announced, Creature Commandos stars David Harbour as Frankenstein, Indira Varmaas the Bride of Frankenstein, Maria Bakalova as Ilana Rostovic, Alan Tudyk as the radioactive Doctor Phosphorous, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky (a scientist who has been transformed into something like the Creature from the Black Lagoon), and Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn as both G.I. Robot and Weasel.
But this trailer gives us a better indication of what these characters are actually like. The Bride has a screw-you attitude, Weasel likes to urinate everywhere, Frankenstein likes to scream, and G.I. Robot likes to kill Nazis.
“It’s been oh so long since G.I. Robot has sent Nazis back to hell,” the robot declares in the new trailer.
Creature Commandos is set to premiere on Max this December. Watch the new teaser above.
