Emily Blunt’s daughters thought she was mean in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’

Emily Blunt’s first major movie role was so cutting that it left a lasting impression on its audience—including the two who live in her house.

As Miranda Priestly’s haughty assistant Emily in The Devil Wears Prada, Blunt cuts through the Runway magazine office like an icy stiletto (the blade, not the shoe). Her performance in the 2006 film is so forceful, in fact, that Blunt’s daughters with husband John Krasinski, 10-year-old Hazel and 7-year-old Violet, started to look at her in a whole new light.

“They thought I was the meanest person they’ve ever met,” Blunt, 41, told Page Six at the 18th Annual American Institute for Stuttering Gala in New York City on Sep. 16.

In the film, not only did Blunt appear opposite heavy-hitters including Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Stanley Tucci, but she more than held her own against these current and future Oscar, Emmy, and Tony winners.

“It was my first big movie,” Blunt said. “It’s incredible that it has such an indelible fingerprint on people… It’s quoted to me every week.”

The A Quiet Place said the AIS’ charitable works are important to her because she stuttered as a child and eventually sought help. “I never thought I would be in a job where I’d have to communicate so much,” she said.

Since her time filming Prada, Blunt has won a Golden Globe and two SAG Awards and has been nominated for an Oscar and four BAFTAs.

In July, EW revealed that a sequel toThe Devil Wears Prada is in the works, with Blunt, Hathaway, Streep, and Tucci involved in the talks alongside the original director David Frankel, original producer Wendy Finerman, and original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.
