It’s been over a year since Marcus Taggert graced America’s TV screens on General Hospital, but the actor who plays him, Réal Andrews, is finally coming clean about his fate on the daytime soap.

Andrews, who first played the character from 1996–2003, and again from 2020–23, began his Instagram video by acknowledging to fans, “I’ve been getting a lot of questions for over a year now,” and that while he had answers, “They’re probably not the answers that you want to hear, but it’s all great.”

“So, my chapter with General Hospital is over,” he explained. “The writing has been on the wall for a long time…and I wanted to come here because you guys have been phenomenal, the best, amazing supporters.”

Andrews said “it’s just been an incredible journey,” before thanking the executives, producers, writers, and creatives behind the series for giving him the opportunity.

In his last scene in the show, his character memorably had a breakdown after learning that his daughter was not biologically related to him as he had previously thought. In his Instagram video, he acknowledged that fans might not be pleased with where things ended with his character.

“I know a lot of you are gonna be, like, mad or whatever, and I appreciate it, I’m grateful for that, but you know what? It’s been an amazing ride, right? And I love to be able to, when you think about it, go out on top. I mean, man, the last scenes that I shot, I mean, as an actor, I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Frank [Valentini, executive producer] said, ‘I’ve written you some amazing stuff,’ and he did… Being blessed to be on a show like General Hospital, I mean, it really is a blessing, from top to bottom.”

Elsewhere in the video, he added, “God said this chapter of my life is closed. Yeah, that was awesome, and I was able to go out with the material that I was blessed [with]. I mean, what a dream for an actor, to be able to go out with material like that.”

Andrews also teased an exciting opportunity that is in the works. “I got offered what is the biggest role in my life. It’s [with] the biggest and best network, the best director, producers, writers, in my opinion, in the industry,” he teased. “We’re in pre-production for it. I signed an NDA, so I’m not able to talk about it, but it’s huge.”

He added, “When I’m able to share with you guys, it’s gonna blow your mind… It’s the biggest project of my life, ever. The most important one. And everything comes together, and happens for a reason, right? Everything I’ve done in my whole life was for this moment right here.”
