The Magnetic Lure is a single-use item in Pokémon GO that attracts specific types of Pokémon, specifically Electric, Steel, and Rock-type creatures, to a PokéStop for a 30-minute duration. It functions similarly to the standard Lure Module, raising the spawn rate of Pokémon within a given location. However, the Magnetic Lure will only attract the three types mentioned above.
On the other hand, Trainers might wish to obtain and activate a Magnetic Lure Module for another reason other than encountering more Electric, Steel, or Rock-type Pokémon. Certain Pokémon, such as Magneton and Nosepass, require a Magnetic Lure to be active nearby to evolve into their next form. But just like the Sun Stone, it’s not the easiest item to obtain in Pokémon GO.

How To Get A Magnetic Lure Module In Pokémon Go
Complete Tasks Or Purchase One From The Shop
There are two ways to get a Magnetic Lure Module in Pokémon GO. The first and most straightforward method is to purchase one from the in-game shop for 180 PokéCoins. This cost may vary depending on the Trainer and their location, but the real-world value of this is around 2 USD. While this price isn’t very demanding, some find it too high for evolving a single Pokémon.
If you don’t want to pay for a Magnetic Lure Module, it’s sometimes possible to get one for free as a reward for completing Special Research stories or Timed Research tasks, such as the ones featured in the Strength of Steel event. This doesn’t happen very often, though, so it’s not something you can do on a whim. You’ll have to wait for a Research task that provides one as a reward, which could take a while.
It is possible to earn free PokéCoins by battling opposing Gyms and controlling them by placing a strong Pokémon in it. Trainers can earn six PokéCoins per hour and up to 50 a day with this method. Therefore, you would need to ensure that you’re able to maintain different Gyms over four to five days without fail to earn the amount required to buy the Magnetic Lure in Pokémon GO.
How To Use A Magnetic Lure Module
Place It On A PokéStop
Once you’ve got a Magnetic Lure Module in Pokémon GO, it’s time to place it on a PokéStop so you can activate it. To do this, simply travel close enough to a PokéStop on the in-game map, tap on the PokéStop, and then tap the small ‘plus’ symbol that appears above the photo. Select the Magnetic Lure Module and tap on it to confirm that you want to place it down.
After placing a Magnetic Lure Module, themed Pokémon will begin to spawn around the PokéStop for the next 30 minutes. Stay within radius of the PokéStop to make the most of this bonus. You’ll also need to be within the PokéStop’s radius if you want to evolve a Pokémon that requires a Magnetic Lure Module to complete its evolution process.
Lure Modules last longer than 30 minutes during special events like the monthly Community Days, so it’s sometimes better to save them for those occasions to get more value from them.
All Pokémon That Evolve With A Magnetic Lure Module
Magneton, Nosepass & Charjabug
There are currently three Pokémon that can only evolve when you’re near a PokéStop that has a Magnetic Lure Module on it:
- Magneton into Magnezone
- Nosepass into Probopass
- Charjabug into Vikavolt
The good thing about Magnetic Lure Modules is that if another Trainer places one on a PokéStop, you can still take advantage of its effects. So if you’re running short on Magnetic Lure Modules in Pokémon GO, it’s worth exploring and seeing if you can find a PokéStop that already has one placed on it.
