Joe Rogan issued a rare statement about the behind-the-scenes negotiations for a podcast guest, posting a comment about why vice president Kamala Harris hasn’t appeared on his show.
Rogan says Harris’ team wanted Rogan to fly out to New York to interview the presidential candidate and that their interview would be restricted to one hour.
“For the record, the Harris campaign has not passed on doing the podcast,” Rogan said in a comment on X. “They offered a date for Tuesday, but I would have had to travel to her and they only wanted to do an hour. I strongly feel the best way to do it is in the studio in Austin. My sincere wish is to just have a nice conversation and get to know her as a human being. I really hope we can make it happen.”
The update comes a week before the general election amid polls showing an extremely close race between Harris and Donald Trump, who appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience last week. Harris has been lagging in the polls among young men, a demo that makes up the largest bulk of Rogan’s audience.
On Friday, Trump went to Rogan’s studio in Austin for an interview and sat for nearly three hours. The episode has racked up an incredible 37 million views on YouTube, which doesn’t include people who listened the episode via its home on Spotify or on other platforms.
The episode currently ranks as Rogan’s third most popular on YouTube behind an episode interviewing UFO researchers Bob Lazar and Jeremy Corbell (61 million) and another with surveillance whistleblower Edward Snowden (38 million).
During the show, Trump derided the idea of Harris appearing on the podcasted and predicted she would be “laying on the floor” and it would “be a mess.”
Rogan pushed back and said, “I could imagine her doing this show. She was supposed to do it and she might still do it … I would try to have a conversation with her … I wouldn’t try to interview her. I’d just try to have a conversation with her and hopefully get to know her as a human being.”
