Make way, make way! It’s the new Moana 2 trailer.
Stars Auli’i Cravalho (the voice of Moana) and Dwayne Johnson (the voice of Maui) made a big splash at Disney’s D23 fan event in Anaheim, Calif., on Friday. The duo teased the highly anticipated animated sequel, which included new footage from Moana’s next great odyssey, and revealed that she is now a big sister to the adorable Simea (Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda)
Cravalho said when we meet the Disney heroine again she spends her time searching nearby islands in hopes that there just might be more people beyond the waters she’s sailed. Johnson called this the most exciting journey yet, and an empowering tale of having the guts to go for more — but “wait till you see the villains we have.”
The sequel is set three years after the events of 2016’s Moana when our titular seafaring adventurer receives an unexpected call from her ancestors. She must then set out on a journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters.
In addition to Cravalho’s Moana, Johnson’s Maui, and Lambert-Tsuda’s Simea, voice cast in the sequel includes returning stars Rachel House (Moana’s Grandma, Tala), Temuera Morrison (Moana’s father, Chief Tui) and Nicole Scherzinger (Moana’s mother, Sina), as well as the voices of Hualālai Chung, David Fane, and Rose Matafeo as Moana’s new crew members Moni, Kele, and Loto, respectively. Awhimai Fraser voices mysterious new character Matangi; and Gerald Ramsey plays Moana’s ancestor, Tautai Vasa.
