Tough love on Disney Night

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dancing With the Stars season 33, episode 6, “Disney Night.”

A dream is a wish your heart makes on tonight’s Dancing With the Stars! Fan-favorite Disney night is back and the stars donned some classic ensembles (and questionable wigs) to make the Disney dream a reality.

The night began with a group dance to “Friend Like Me” from Aladdin, and even hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough joined in on the fun.

Bachelorette star Jenn Tran may have danced to kiss the girl, but kiss her, her partner Sasha did not. The pair performed a good, but not great, romantic rumba to The Little Mermaid classic, and sadly Sasha’s friendly crab costume did not make an appearance. They received a 24 out of 30.

And what’s that I see swinging through the trees? None other than Tarzan himself, Joey Graziadei! The Bachelor star brought his character to life, wig and all, and he and partner Jenna earned a 25 out of 30 for their samba. DWTS OG fans will remember when Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd danced to the same song on season 22, and Nyle also really got into character, loin cloth and all. Sad to report that Joey did not show the same dedication, and wore pants instead.

Chandler Kinney is the alpha, she’s the leader, and she’s definitely the one to trust on Disney night. The Disney star danced to her own song “We Own the Night” from Zombies 2 and some fellow Seabrook friends — Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly — stopped by rehearsals to cheer her on. Last week, Chandler saw a decrease in her scores, but her Disney night paso doble brought the intensity that the judges were longing to see. The actress and pro partner Brandon made it to the top of the leader board, tying with NFL star Danny Amendola.

Flips, lifts, and punches, oh my! Danny channeled Deadpool for his super-sized jazz routine to “Bye Bye Bye” and got some advice from NSYNC member Joey Fatone. Danny and pro partner Witney had just about every lift and trick you could think of in their performance and their dedication to reenacting Deadpool and Wolverine’s fight scene paid off with their highest score yet, 27 out of 30. “People were sleeping on you Danny,” Derek Hough said. “It was like martial arts with the stars.”

After the first round of dances, Chandler and Brandon were awarded immunity from next week’s dance-off round, plus an extra three points will be added to their score for next week. “I feel like the pretty girl in high school for the first time,” Brandon quipped.

There may be no “I” in team but there is a whole lot of fun! The team dances made their awaited return tonight with Team Roar versus Team Goofs. First up was Danny & Witney, Dwight & Daniella, Phaedra & Val, and Stephen & Rylee, otherwise known as Team Roar. Their freestyle dance to “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from The Lion King was packed with charisma, but the judges gave them 8s for their lack of precise timing. Team Goofs, Chandler & Brandon, Ilona & Alan, Jenn & Sasha, and Joey & Jenna, gave it their all when they performed to “I 2 I” from The Goofy Movie. They got 9s and resounding praise from the judges, landing them the win for the team dance round.

But even on DWTS’ most magical night, one queen must go. Phaedra Parks, who was determined to break the curse of Real Housewives stars going home early, was sent packing herself.
